RUN AND DISCOVER MAASTRICHT

Maastricht is located in South of The Netherlands at walking distance of the Belgian and cycling distance from the German Border.

Its History

Maastricht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The name Maastricht is derived from Latin Traiectum ad Mosam, meaning 'crossing at the river Meuse', and referring to the bridge built by the Romans in the first century!

The history of Maastricht can roughly be divided into four phases: the Roman settlement, a medieval religious centre, a garrison city, and an early industrial city. Remnants of these four phases can still be seen in the city centre.

Maastricht is most known for the Maastricht Treaty. The 1992 treaty led to the introduction of the Euro (€) in 2002.

Suggestions of What to Do Running

According to the distance you want to run, we suggest running one of our two types of tours:

Maastricht - Netherland

Our Highlight tour of about 1,5 hours (± 6 - 8 kms) takes you along the most important and interesting sites in Maastricht. This nice route in one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of The Netherlands leads you along squares and watermills, over city walls, along small picturesque alleys, old town gates and through different parks. Our tour which is nearly free from traffic, is really worthwhile!

The trail running ranges from 8 to 18 kms in two countries. This is probably the only cross border running tour in the world. The tour takes you over the Limburg hills into Belgium. You will pass the border numerous times and only one running guide can tell you when. No passport is needed as there is no border control. You will enjoy spectacular views and very nice single tracks. You pass various limestone caves. On route you get to see a very ancient but beautiful farm, a great castle and a fortress build in the 1700s to prevent the French taking over the city of Maastricht. You make a limited number of stops as the beautiful scenery tells you most of the story.

“The private running tour offers you the best of both the trail and/or the highlight tour in the city center. Let us know when and where you want to start and we'll setup with you a running tour route that matches your desires best”.
